What it's for. In context, with provider clearance.

§ 51 · Helps

Post-surgicalafter the four-week check

  • scar mobilisation
  • localised swelling
  • circulation support
  • tissue softening

Oncology-awareduring & after treatment

  • conservative pressure throughout
  • positioning around ports/drains
  • fatigue support
  • sleep quality

Post-cosmeticliposuction, BBL, tummy tuck

  • standard post-op protocol
  • compression garment integration
  • scar tissue support
  • oedema reduction

Immune supportchronic patterns

  • autoimmune flares (low-acute)
  • fibromyalgia presentations
  • long covid recovery
  • general low-energy windows
Pressure is much lighterthan typical massage. The work is rhythmic, not deep.

Lymphatic drainage feels different from any other massage. The pressure is intentionally light — about the weight of a coin on the skin. The strokes are slow, repetitive, and follow specific anatomical pathways toward the lymph nodes. Many first-time clients say it feels too gentle to be doing anything — until they see the swelling drop or sleep through the night for the first time in weeks. Sessions are typically ninety minutes for full work; sixty minutes for focused post-op areas.

§ 52 · Who

Ideal for. With provider clearance.

Post-surgical patients (after the four-week check or as your surgeon indicates), oncology patients during or after treatment with provider clearance, post-cosmetic procedure recovery on the standard protocol, and people managing chronic immune patterns. Bring your provider's notes; I'll work within them.

§ 53 · When not

Hold off if. The body needs medical care first.

Active infection, fever, untreated DVT, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, or any acute condition your provider hasn't cleared. Lymphatic work moves fluid through systems — when those systems are compromised, that movement can do harm. The booking holds for owner pre-review on these flags by design.

Common questions. About lymphatic specifically.

§ 54 · Ask
How is this different from regular massage?
Regular massage uses moderate-to-deep pressure on muscles. Lymphatic uses very light pressure on the skin and superficial tissue, in slow rhythmic patterns following specific anatomical pathways. Different system, different goal — and it feels completely different.
What's "oncology-aware" actually mean?
It means I've completed Oncology Massage Foundations through the OHSU partnership program — thirty-two hours of training in conservative pressure, positioning around ports and drains, contraindications, and working alongside active treatment. It does not mean I treat cancer. It means I can safely ease the body around the cancer and the treatment, with your oncology team's clearance.
Will it actually do anything if it's so light?
Yes — and this is the most common surprise. The lymphatic system responds to light, repetitive stimulation in ways that deeper pressure actually inhibits. Post-op clients see oedema drop measurably; oncology clients sleep through nausea windows; long-COVID clients report energy returning. The lightness is the mechanism.
How soon after surgery can I book?
Depends on the surgery and what your surgeon says. Standard post-cosmetic protocols (liposuction, BBL, tummy tuck) often start within the first week. Most other surgeries are after the four-week check. Bring your discharge instructions and provider note to your first session.
Frequency?
Post-cosmetic protocols often want two to three sessions per week for the first two weeks, then taper. Oncology-supportive work is usually weekly during active treatment. Chronic immune patterns: every two to three weeks at maintenance. We'll set the cadence together with your provider's input.
Insurance / HSA?
Lymphatic drainage with provider note is more often reimbursable than other massage modalities. I produce the superbill with appropriate codes; your administrator handles the rest. Ask before booking if you want me to use specific codes.
